Dementia Swimming Sessions

Last week’s carers group meeting, I was asked to find out some more information about the dementia swimming sessions. I therefore emailed Krissie at Barnet Copthall and he responded to confirm;

In answer to your questions:

  • Carers would absolutely be able to join in the pool, and this would be advised.
  • Carers will be able to access free swimming on their own via the carers FAB pass.
  • Our changing villages are unisex and will allow for carers to assist in a cubicle.

Medication

Please see below a link from NHS England. The Template I showed you can be found under Medication and you just need to click on the Word document. There is also other interesting reading in this link.

Dosette Box

There was a discussion regarding dosette boxes and whether they are still provided. Please see the link below which appears to provide them free.

Mirtazapine

Mirtazapine has been known to be more beneficial to some patients who have not been able to tolerate any dementia medications. The doctor will decide whether the medication is suitable depending on what other medications the person is taking. You can read more about this medicine in the link below.

I hope the above is helpful. If you would like to discuss any particular topic for next week please let me know.
