On Tuesday 2nd August Dementia Club at Mill Hill Eversfield centre had a holiday theme. Jane Ferguson was running the session today and introduced an A-Z quiz asking members to name things they would pack to go on holiday to Blackpool (or any other holiday choice). There were lots of imaginative and novel ideas, one of the members – Judith managed to fill in all the letters and she was delighted to receive a small prize. There were also jigsaws and colouring pictures of beach scenes for everyone to enjoy which kept everyone very busy. We have some budding artists among our members.
After enjoying our teas and coffees and lovely cakes homemade by Jane whilst chatting, we moved across to join Helen and her lovely music. Today Helen played the piano, accordion, and her beautiful harp. She played some well-known songs which everyone enjoyed singing along to and were sung with gusto. Everyone participated including Jane and our volunteer Theresa who were asked to lead on the group with Helen’s instructions.
It was also lovely to see today Corrado’s son Lorenzo from Italy and his 2 grandchildren Louka and Alice joining in the singing with Helen and then with the exercises. Dementia Club UK always loves to welcome the families
Everybody joined in including doing the actions. There was also a birthday to celebrate today, and everyone ended up with singing Happy Birthday to Yokhi one of the members. The session then followed with exercise to music, and we were joined by Rachel who stared with seated exercise to music to warm everyone up followed with some salsa which everyone enjoyed. As everyone worked so hard and being a warm humid day, Jane surprised everyone with a choc ice each at the end which was welcomed by everybody.
Lisa finally reminded everybody about the forthcoming outing to Kew Gardens on August 26th.
It was a lovely afternoon enjoyed by both the Rotary helpers and members and it was great to see some new faces and lots of the regular visitors.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 6th September.
